Can marriage last forever?

Marriages can indeed last forever, and before the days of divorce they did last forever. Some were happily ever after, or at least most of the time happily ever after. Others were living and going on because they must. What most people fail to realize is how to make a marriage last forever. We are so wound up in how we feel at the moment that we forget what marriage is and what it isn't.

Romantic Love.
We love romantic love. We love the quickening of the heart beat, as it goes pitter patter with excitement. We love roses, and dates, and joyful kisses. But romantic love doesn't last forever. We all want to be "in love" and when we think that is no longer there, we like to move on. But being "in love" isn't really enough to make a marriage last. Often those in love feelings fade when bad times come or just from time themselves. They are actually the biggest part of the marriage that you really have to work at to maintain.

Seeing the Faults.
We jump into marriage, usually because we are "in love". During that time we fail to sit down and really evaluate the other persons faults. They are bound to have some somewhere. Without evaluating the faults of the other person, we may be in for a big surprise. We make wake up one morning and realize that we don't enjoy the faults of the person that we married and that they indeed drive us crazy. However, knowing ones faults and jumping into marriage can make it so there is no shock factor.

Marrying and Expecting Change.
Sad to say a lot of people marry and they expect to form and mold their spouse over time. This doesn't usually work out well and can only lead to additional fights and bad times. After all he or she is who they are and you can't really change them. They are the only ones who can change themselves.

Marriage is Work.
Most newlyweds look at divorce and say, "That won't be us!" They are so caught up with their emotions that they forget to really think about the work that comes with marriage. There will be fights, difficult times, and you have to work to keep your marriage moving in a positive direction.

So with all the negative that we often do when getting involved in a marriage, how does one make it last? What is the secret to having a marriage that takes you from now until forever?

Be Honest.
Be honest with yourself. He or she has flaws, you will have fights, and their will be days you don't "feel" like it. You won't always have happy go lucky feelings for the person. After
