The Breakdown of Marriage Has Led to a Growing Crisis in America
America’s forty-year experiment abandoning traditional marriage has been disastrous.

Surveys reveal most Americans sense a downward trend in our nation’s moral standards and quality of life—a trend they link directly with the breakdown of marriage and family.

Study after study now confirm that link, documenting the widespread negative effects of the breakdown of marriage, as well as the many positive benefits that are lost as a result. Children especially suffer, enduring pain that will last a lifetime, and scars that never fully heal.

Yet, while millions are troubled by this, most have no idea what to do about it. They hesitate to go against the tide of popular culture, which dismisses marriage as outdated and dying. Or they don’t want to seem “judgmental” about others’ relationships, and assume they affect no one else anyway. Or they feel the problem is just too big for them to help solve. Still others see marriage being used as a political battleground, and don’t want to be drawn into the fight.

But the fact is, the breakdown of marriage harms every American. All of us are paying a huge price—in higher taxes and costly government programs, in more crime and juvenile delinquency, in declining cities and schools, and in countless immeasurable ways—from losing a sense of personal safety and happiness, to watching our society become defined by “rejection.”
